On July 2nd, it was announced that the first Earth and Planetary Science Popularization Works Competition, hosted by the Chinese Society of Mineral, Rock and Geochemistry, has completed all selection work. Professor Xu Yan from the Yifu Museum of China University of Geosciences was awarded the Excellent Award in the Science Popularization Article category.
The award-winning article by Professor Xu Yan is titled "Suizhou Meteorite: Unveiling the Mysterious Link between Earth and the Universe". The article starts with the Suizhou Meteorite, the second largest meteorite rain since the founding of New China, and combines it with the Suizhou Meteorite and other meteorites in the collection of the Yifu Museum of China University of Geosciences to introduce the origin and development of meteorites, the scientific research value of Suizhou Meteorite, as well as the scientific research and collection process and results of Suizhou Meteorite by China University of Geosciences (Wuhan). It calls on the people to explore the mysteries of the universe together and contribute their own strength to the construction of a "Beautiful China and Livable Earth".
This competition is divided into three categories: popular science articles, natural landscape and geological phenomenon photography works, popular science videos, and popular science paintings. Among them, 157 first authors submitted 164 articles in the popular science article category, and one first prize, five second prizes, ten third prizes, and 41 excellent prizes were ultimately awarded.
